Patsy

Patsy is the name for our trusted travel companion, a 2001 Toyota Landcruiser.

She is the most experienced of our three and so far she has already shown us that she feels at home on several different terrains. We bought her in january 2010 and her previous owner had already made several modifications (OME suspension system, 80 liter secondary tank, AT tyres, customized storage boxes)  for his travels to Libya and Tunesia.

We have added some electrical modifications for the fridge, installed a convenient 500W power convertor underneath the driving seat and changed out the radio to enable an i-pod connection. We bought some shades (UV protection films) for the back windows and customized fitting window covers for extra insulation and privacy. Additionally we also modified the customized boxes and added some of our own to generate the most comfortable camping bed possible including a flexible slatted frame and a memory foam mattress and installed a fold-out table on the rear door.

Modifications to be tackled this year are going to be a final improvement of the storage boxes and in Africa we will install a safari snorkel, roof rack, rooftop tent and maybe some rocksliders….

…. and just in case you were wondering where she got her name from….

Remember Patsy Stone from Absolutely Fabulous? After driving economical small cars (Seat Marbella, Nissan Micra, Ford Fiesta, etc) for years we found the fuel appetite of the Toyota is definitely comparable to Mrs Stone’s appetite for booze.
