Time to say good bye =/

29 Dec

Kat and Britta are leaving early tomorrow morning and their lovely host Nicky organized a cozy good-bye-braai in her lovely Kalk bay apartment.

A Darling day

29 Dec

Vanessa joined us today on a fun-filled trip to Darling to see a new show by Pieter-Dirk Uys: Tannie praat Kaktus.

After roaming around Evita se perron garden, museum and shop we entered the theater where all three of us got picked on during the show. (Vanessa for not speaking Afrikaans, Haitske because of apartheid and Sandra because of the German concentration camps)

We both had our picture taken with the Evita Bezuidenhout board that is set up next to the station. The board was made for people with a more average height though. Haitske’s head stuck out above the frame…

Going for that traditional tourist picture

28 Dec

Bloubergstrand is just one of those places around cape town where every tourist wants to take a picture.

No wonder…..  Even batman goes on holiday here =)

Lobster fishing on boxing day

26 Dec

Today we were awoken by allan at 7 in the morning. The best time to launch the boat and go lobster fishing in Kommetjie.

Allan and Vanessa set out 6 nets and after a couple of runs we had our 8 lobsters in a bucket. You are only allowed 4 lobsters per license and the police does check up on that to prevent over-fishing of the species.

A lovely way to start the day!

on a warm Christmas day

24 Dec

Celebrating Christmas in summer is a strange thing for us. We kept feeling surprised every time we saw the Christmas decorations in the shops. Somehow sunshine and shorts don’t fit with Christmas trees and little decorative snowmen.

Keeping in line with the south African theme we decided to celebrate Christmas eve by having a braai together with Kat and Britta. The girls came over in the late afternoon and we started the celebrations by first decorating the Christmas tree Kat brought along. Then we lounged around in the shade underneath our tarp while Sandra started a nice fire. When the coals were hot we put a flattie (or as we say “roadkill chicken”) and some miellies (sweetcorn) on the grid. And as a desert Kat introduced us to some extremely lekker grilled chocolate bananas. YUMMIEEE!

Hiking around Cape Town

23 Dec

Great view over Noordhoek and Longbeach where dear Vanessa (thanks for hiking with us) and Allan took us!

Shopping extravaganza!

19 Dec

Kat and Haitske had fun modeling hats for Sandra…

Shark watch

19 Dec

Due to the often spotted presence of great white sharks in the bay, and the four casualties they have had this year, we won’t even consider putting more than our big toe in the water. Although we must say that we haven’t actually seen one ourselves…

Another milestone

18 Dec

Today we paid a visit to the tourist must-see : Cape Point and the Cape Of Good Hope. We all queued up for that standard picture at the sign.

Sadly enough we couldn’t take one with Patsy as well due to the arrival of two busloads of Japanese tourists. =/
